ludwig 1972 wmp bass drum virgin Last viewed: 38 minutes ago

This drum has no cymbal mounts, tom mounts nor bass spur mounts. I have seen bass drums which are virgin in the catalog pics of this era but they have bass drum mounts installed in the shell whereas mine does not. My drum is a 22x14. My question is what model did this particular bass drum come with. I have a 12 and a 13 clip mounted toms and a 18 floor tom that came with this kit all serial dated 1972. Thanks for the help

What size? Do you think it could be a concert bass drum? I had a 20x14 without ANY holes in it besides the lug casings. My first thought was "marching drum,", but it wasn't a marching drum because it lacked any marching hardware.

Can somebody chime in? Did Ludwig offer concert bass drums in any/every size? Or, is this a special order from the factory?

It is a 22 x14. Both sides have heads and 10 lugs. Thanks for the info.

Caddy - Yes sir, they sure did and continue to do so. The concert bass drums are usually found in larger sizes, 26", 28", and up. But they did produce 14"x22"s and I'm sure 14"x20"s as well. Ludwig also sells the concert drum stands and a line of Ludwig mallets to whack them with.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

It could easily be a marching bass drum also My High school band used a 14x20" and a 14x22" bass drum in our marching band, with had the harness clips, so no extra holes into our drums just clipped it on to the tension rods'.

Com'on everyone... marching basses came with harness eyelets mounted, and 20" and 22" concert basses were not as popular to account for all the 22" virgin basses popping up, and there's a lot of virgin basses out there. So what is their origin? Here's a hint....

Not all marching bass drum ours clipped to the tension rods. I have two of the harness myself now.

But the OP stated, his bass drum had no spur mounts. The Rock duo and the Blue Note both have virgin bass drums, but also has spurs.

The only other answer besides a marcher of concert drum, would be a custom order, with no hardware, and clip on spurs.

Steve, you're right, I forgot the comment about no spur mounts. So it must be either a small concert bass (maybe for a school), a custom ordered bass, or as Vintagemore points out, a marcher with no harness eyelets. Either way, it would be worth protecting to ensure no one drills holes into it.
