Ludwig 5x14 snare drum question Last viewed: 2 hours ago

My dad asked me to try to sell this on e-bay, but I am having issues identifying for sure what type it is. I have been told that this is one of the best places to check into what something is, and so thought I would post the pics really quickly. It is fairly beat up.

Also, I was told that different heads make it sound different, and as you can see it definitely could use a new head. However, I don't think that I should get a new one if there are several different options out there... is this wrong?

I checked and a magnet doesn't stick to it, so I am fairly certain it is the aluminum Supraphonic, but not sure.

Your drum is NOT a Supraphonic.

It's an Acrolite in pretty rough shape, based on the pics you posted.

It's an Acrolite. Like a Supraphonic, but with 8 bowtie lugs instead of 10 imperial lugs.

Current gigging set:
Recent Ludwig Accent 13/16/18/26, (in Silver Sparkle), "updated" 70's Acrolite with cast batter hoop and Trick strainer/butt

Cymbals:
Zildjian K Custom Ride, Dream (Bliss and Contact) crashes and hats, and a Sabian Swish/China.

Other stuff:
60's Ludwig Champagne Sparkle "Traveler's Club Date", under construction. Click Here
70's Acrolite (under RE-construction)
Two 1960's mahogany 32" Ludwig bass drums with Imperial lugs.

It's a Ludwig Acrolite. Made from aluminum like the Supraphonic, but the Acrolite was their student or entry-level drum. In good shape, they often sell for $100-125. In the shape yours is in... considerably less.

On the bright side... It may not be worth a fortune and it may not be the prettiest drum around, but it wouldn't take much to make it sound great.

Thank you very much everyone, that helps a lot. Last time I tried looking for drums it took me almost a month to figure out that I had a slingerland expresso kit.

There's a super resource for drum IDs at the Drum Guide...

Check it out, you will be amazed with the wealth of knowledge there.
