Ludwig 6.5x14 SS Pre-serial Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I just purchased a pre serial LM411 COB.

6.5x14 COB SuperSensitive

It has been modified to use a Ludwig P83 or P85 with matching butt plate.

It's in overall pretty good condition, a few scratches and a few small dings, but overall nothing out of the ordinary.

I couldn't pass it up for $200 even with the 4 extra holes.

This photo is before any cleaning. This is exactly how I received it.

I will post more pictures soon, but have to ask......how did I make out?

Thanks Mike! I figured even if it was just brass or just 6.5" depth it was a good deal, so the 6.5" and brass had to be even better.

Are you kidding?? Pre-serial 5" COBs are sold for $600-700, I can't even imagine a 6,5" in that condition :) Even with extra holes, this drum is a treasure... :)

Steve – one month ago I had trouble selling a converted SS in Ludalloy from 64 for $275. Ended up selling it for 260 shipped. You made out like a godda*med bandit and I am extremely jealous.

Extremely. Great find, man. Will you post a pic of the little "b" stamp? I have a kind of...fetish for that. I ended up buying a brand new 6.5 COB just to get that need filled in my life. (p.s. – It was worth it.)

Thank you, I'm very excited about it. I can't believe I own it. I can't seem to see a stamp in it, I know Ludwig was very inconsistent with their dating and stamping and everything.

Most times, the stamp sits above the tone control on the outside of the drum – and it's not an ink stamp, it's literally stamped into the metal. Sometimes the stamp is under the throw-off, but that's pretty rare.

If you haven't seen the stamp, what makes you think that it's brass? That's usually the most definitive sign.

I assumed he meant no date stamp found. the supers didn't have the b stamp, only the later brass drums had that from what ive seen. if its a pre serial and has a factory round knob muffler(both shell holes the same size), then it should be brass.
