Ludwig Aluminum Snare Drums Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Can anyone give me any info on these drums? I picked one up a few weeks ago. The B/O badge on it had no serial number (which makes me think it was a 70) and some guy before me scratched numbers on it. It looks like some of the Acrolite snares that I see online. Any info on these drums would be appreciated. A friend has one that looks like the same thing but is a 60's badge. Thanks all!

Does it look like this one this is a 70's acrolite that I'm showing you out of our gallery, but in the early 70's the blue olive badge came without serial numbers on it. http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=12099

Yes it does look like that. I was thinking it was just a student model because I have been seeing lots of these on Craigslist for pretty cheap. Just wanted to be sure. Thanks for your time.

An acrolite was marketed as lower price point drum, but yes it was considered a student model to many school programs back in the day up to the present, that's what I started on! but really the acrolite is a super bargain, it's really a supraphonic, with 8 lugs instead of 10 lug that the supra has, and it's not chromed. other wise it's a big time bargain!

acrolites are one of the best snsre drums available for any amount of money. There have been many different acro-oddities over the years.

some with Imperial lugs, most, by a long shot, with the familiar bowtie. Some with 10 lugs, others with 6 1/2 shells, all are a,azing and for anywhere between 50-150, you just can't beat them. Grab as many as you can. They fluctuate, but they will continue to creep up in value.

agreed. proud owner of 4 acros here. prototype,keystone,b/o and a blacro. will get more as finances permit. they are fine drums. my pre serial keystone proto with round knob muffler and imperials is my favorite snare. and i'm proud to say that i own some dandys...

Put ludwig medium or remo ambassador white coated on top, and ludwig clear or remo ambassador hazy on the bottom, puresound custom snare wires,16 or 20 strand. rack it up fairly tight, it will put a big big smile on your face
