I was looking for the first drum for my "vintage" drum set. More of something for fun with that retro look. A friend who haunts the Goodwill stores and CL and collects other things, found this last week. I own it now. Cool1
I'm trying to date it and figure some things out. Like what are those eyelets for? (in last photo) May have had two but one is left. May have been another one four rods away from the existing one. There's another similar hole.
When I played a bass drum in band, it sat in a cradle. Or was there some system for hanging it? Marching drum? Locations don't seem to make sense.
Missing one of the rod supports. Missing the hardware for the inside of the other one. How hard is it to find replacement parts?
It was altered to make it into a lamp? Hold is cut out of the original material, which may make it easier to repair or just leave it. Hole for light socket would have to be patched.
Fiberskyn 3 FA heads in good condition.
Can anyone help with dating this? It says black inside, but I'm not so sure it was paint black? If so, it's a re-paint. I see some vestiges of white on the hoops. (just reversed one that was on backwards with the square side out) Some gold paint under one of the washers.
Gold paint on everything, which I think may have been added after the fact, but then did all the hardware just have a brass color?
Do I want to preserve this or can I make it into a playing bass drum without doing something rude to an old classic?
