These snares are reasonably common. I once found a true Anniversay snare (with the tapped Imperial lugs) covered in dust from an estate dealer and had the pleasure of restoring this drum. Your drum though with the nice Duco finish in that condition is above average. How are the metal surfaces in terms of corrosion? The nickel plating is a challenge to restore. Are you going to clean her up? I bet it will shine up pretty nicley with a gentle detailing!I currently own a 1940 Ludwig Standard nickel over brass (see attached). The standard strainer at the time was quite an improvement over the previous incarnation.The difference between this drum and the 1938,39 models is the additional strainer "roller" portion below the Standard strainer and the snare hoop gate is extended below the level of the drum.kellyj

thanks for the knowledge again..i see your badge is gold..mines silver is that because of the year difference?? condition very good thanks..yep cant wait to give it a nice clean when it arrives and the duco should come up nice with a bit of tlc..any idea of what price these normally go for??

I think mine originally had the paint on the badge but someone took it off. Your drum could be worth from $450-700.

many thanks kellyj for all the info and i paid $500 for it so very pleased with your valuation.just waiting for it to arrive and thanks again mate...Also bought a 63 Ludwig blue and silver duco so when that arrives may need you again mate !!

Marko,

I found that the roller on the extension sits too low causing the snares to not contact the resonant head properly. Advice on that?

"D"..On your drum.The badge-{white painted} tells me its a 1939 and on drum..Your drum is a conn era made drum these were made in elkhart but the badge reads chicago..Ludwig shange the strainer to a new model 339 that ludwig came out with in 1939..These things would lead me to say your drum is not a anniversary model snare but a Standard model snare..These snares are somewhat common to come by.These are nice sounding drums..The price you paid is a great price these drums do sell for 450.00-800.00 in the states..Mikey
