Ludwig Black Panther Jazzette-What a beauty! Last viewed: 17 seconds ago

Hi All,

I meant to post this long before now, but I took this picture at the 2017 Chicago Drum Show. 12/14/18 with a virgin bass drum! I know these are super rare. I was there and saw these in person. Definitely an 18" bass. I could not get over the perfect (and I mean PERFECT) condition of this kit. They literally looked like they had just been taken out of the factory boxes. I tried not to get my drool on the camera or on the drums. I was only there Saturday, and I'm hoping someone took them home.

I would've loved to drive back with them, but as you might expect, the price tag certainly reflected it's rarity and pristine condition (Three grand, but I'm sure that was a starting point).

Just wanted to share this with you. Best example I've ever seen of a Black Panther.

Very cool and very clean, somehow I missed that at the show.

Technically not a Jazzette outfit. Looks like the bass drum is 14x18 (not 12 depth) with curved spurs. The mounted tom has the bracket placed for it mounting on the right so this would be a great set for a left handed person (although I can't imagine anyone ever drilling the bass drum for a mount so it's probably that way on purpose).

Not a concern to me as I'm the proud owner of a similar set encumbered by a "too deep" bass drum but the Jazzette catalog police are often quick to pounce. Those would be things to use to negotiate the price down a bit.... :)

My 14x18 KB red sparkle bass drum is also a "virgin" so I put an Atlas rail on it.

Oh, this brings back memories of my dad's first new Ludwig kit.....he bought his in 1968 (yes, in black panther) then later in the 70's gave it to me when I started learning to play. When I stopped in the early 90's it was tucked away in a closet. He asked me if I was ever going to use them again, and at the time I told him I wasn't sure and that technically they were his anyway. He took them and traded them and a Ludwig Hollywood kit (also in Black Panther) in on a 5pc set of WMP Monroe era Ludwigs (power sizes). When he passed away in 2005 I got that WMP kit. I wish I still had that Black Panther Jazzette kit though......would be worth a fortune today......rare finish AND rare configuration. As a consolation prize, he kept the supraphonic that went with that jazzette kit, which I also inherited and still own to this day.

And, yes, that's me at age 3 (I think) on his kit. :p
