O-lugs they were black and white but the are only pointed on one side and they are half the size of a regular early 70's blue olive! but already I know they aren't protoype stainless steel, ludwif 1st distributed the stainless steel to there top dealers, and only 100 set's where sent out! and numbers where hand scribed with these number of the kit on them. also the actual first prototype stainless steel wasn't stainless but ludally they are on page #184 of Rob cooks Ludwig book, I also have a buddy who had a set that where painted white from the factory ludalloy shells!

Could be a replacement badge...I thought stainless steel drums came with the rounded badge?? Unless SS means silver sparkle, in that case it's probable from 1970. What does the interior look like? Clear maple interior with reinforcement rings?

SS=Silver Sparkle, in this case. Sorry, I thought I had skirted the question of it being Super Sensitive, being a kick drum and all....crud, forgot about steel. And yes, clear maple with re-rings. Thanks!

I've had several of these float through my house. I've had a silver sparkle kit (all had the blank tag), a couple of snares, and a single bass. All were very early 70s drums and none were "special" drums. They were stock. I purchased one of them from one of our own here.

That's what I suspect, too. If they had been "pre-production" badges, then they should only pertain to a very small, specific time period. But I have seen several and read about several people having them. That kind of rules out the "pre-production" theory, in my opinion.

And, as stated earlier, the drums I have (and have seen/read about) with those blank B/O badges, are just common drums -not prototypes. The only thing that was maybe slightly experimental happening at that time was the type of glue being used.
