Hi there!
A friend found this tom on a Swapmeet down in Pacoima,CA.
Ive never seen a Ludwig drum with this silver paint inside the shell. The badge looks unmolested, the wrap looks perfect...Its this a rare bird? thanks for the input!
All of the painted/granitone drums I have seen have always been completely covered,no bare spots like on that one,and there is some digging on the inside grommet, but no scratches on the badge side of the grommet where they usually are.I am no expert but it looks like someone just wanted the inside to be a different color,or maybe they thought refinishing with silver paint would make them sound Gretschy.I have a Luddy S/L kit from 1984 and the wrap looks exactly the same color and texture/sheen.The photos make it look like the paint was applied against the grain, and seems to be separating vertically, assuming the grain is running horizontally.
That 6-ply should have a cleared natural maple interior. Someone thought they'd take a page out of Grestch's book and paint it silver. NOT factory for sure!
