I have an 80's Zep kit, classic maple, long lug set. Sizes are :
Bass: 26 x 16, one top mount (sets on snare stand) 15", and regular 16 and 18 on floor, 10" snare with 12 lugs. I will attach pictures.
Here's my question: I found an 80's classic maple bass drum 26 x 14 that I'm interested in buying. I took a couple of my drums to see if they matched in regards to color, serial numbers, and correct keystone badge.
Of course the serial numbers didn't match perfectly but were surprisingly very close in batch numbers. His bass drum matched my stuff perfectly. I think I'm going to buy this drum and set up some kind of double bass kit. It's in excellent condition and he wants $400. I think it is a good deal based on what I've seen on ebay.
I have some issues with this idea. My 15" tom has no mounting brackets. I saw one double bass kit on ebay, same sizes and the 15 was just set in the middle of the bass drums. It looked cool but it didn't look like it would be very easy to play because of reach. I checked into using a rim mount set-up for the 15 and it was over $200.00 just to get the 15 mounted to a cymbal stand. The drum guy also told me he didn't recommend mounting a 15" x 14" because of weight.
Here's my question. If you guys were setting up this kit, what would you do with the fifteen? I thought about using it as a floor tom on my left and try and find a 10/12 or 12/14 top mount toms on stand to complete the kit. The problem there is finding two *80's long lug maple classic drums for sale. Also, would it bother you if one bass drum is 16" deep and the other is 14"? they both are 26"......I don't think it will matter much. Thanks!
