Ludwig Bowling Ball Wrap Last viewed: 34 minutes ago

Hey all,

Can anyone provide some info regarding this color of wrap from Ludwig? How common is this wrap? Is it a well sought after?

I own a 1970, 13, 13, 16, 22 kit with this wrap, but I've never seen another kit around my area with this same wrap. I have included a pic of one of my 13" toms. This is the only pic of the kit I have at the moment. I wish I had the original snare that would have came with this kit. Did Ludwig produce any wood snares with this wrap?

As always gentlemen, I appreciate the info provided to me from this membership!

Cheers

That is the "second" version of Ludwig's Oyster BLUE pearl wrap. It came out in 1970 I think. It's not as desirable as the 1st version of OBP, but it does have a charm of its own that represents the aesthetic sensibility of the early 70's. Often, the seams of the wrap are curled or lifting on them because of the glue they had to switch to at that time.

If they are in super-great condition, then there will be interest in them. But they just haven't achieved that "must have" kind of collectible interest.....yet. :)

Yes, snare drums were also wrapped in this finish. But a Supra would have likely been the snare drum sold with a set like the ones you describe. Supras were (are) THE drum set snare drum!

I took such a bad pic with my phone, but the circled snare is a Bowling ball.

well i'll be...i have that same set, and i have been looking for the same wrap for a while know, and i have only came across 1 person that had a sheet from a floor tom, but it was quite expensive. i heard if you find a wrap that could fit a floor tom you could, if you wanted, wrap a jazz fest and that would look cool, but i think the supra would pretty sweet. here are some pics of my set before and after.

Gentlemen,

Those pics are awesome guys!!

O-Lugs, I appreciate the info. You have definitely answered my questions regarding this kit of mine.

Fathertime, If you ever think of selling that snare, please keep me in mind. I've been looking for one for quite awhile. Some close-up pics would be great, that is, if you don't need to get an extension ladder to get the snare down!! LOL.

Again members, thank you

Cheers

You can buy it at Rockin Robin's music store here in Houston. LandenLarry and I went there one day and I took some pics. It is a very cool store. Many, many vintage and new drums for sale there.
