drumbar!...I just wanted to mention that you are slightly in error... actually more than slightly... LOL!! Having nothing to do with your wrap problem.. ( although that is painful, and something almost everyone has experienced with some of their drums ) .. this forum/site...... was NEVER Harry's. You are thinking of the old DCI Drum Forum which WAS Harry Cangany's until he had had enough of the day to day bickering and bull****, so he bailed and that became drumforum.com. THIS forum has always been owned by, and under the control of, our most esteemed Webmaster, David Anfuso. I am the Moderator, Tommyp. So there's the real story! Anyway,Nice to have you here, and enjoy your stay!Tommyp

Tommy! Slight correction for ya, it became drumforum.org, not drumforum.com. Not a big deal, but I caught that too, this wasn't ever Harry Cangany's site.

About those Ludwigs.. The really old BOP wrap often gets shrinking and cracking although usually along the oyster wrap lines.. So your set is a TRUE nod to the old Ringo sets! Congratulations!

Pounder!...

THANKS!... and you are of course correct! Course the fact that I didn't know it was .org might indicate how often I visit over there... LOL! That said, when Harry owned the site/forum, it was indeed .com... hence my error. Thanks again!

Hey guys thanks for all the corrections. Not Harry. Got it. I think I just typed in Vintage Drum and this is what I got. Just to make a few corrections of my own, good eye on the rusty T, actually those are old off an old kit, I didn't like the newer Claws/T's, gotta keep the vintage vibe. So the kit isn't used , like maybe 3 gigs ever. And has been stored in cases longer than being out. Temperature changes were never extreme. The only thing I can gather, I do store them up above in the garage, and it is possible that during summer months it gets hot up there? but enough to do this??

I have never had any luck talking with anyone at Ludwig, they never take my call, and say I have to contact the retailer. The retailer doesnt care since it is now 10 years ago I ordered it. And also I store all the drums up in the same area, so why only happen to the bass? So if I order more wrap from Prec., is it going to match? humm.... I have 4 other kits up there, all old, none of them have this problem.

1971 Camco Chanute Champ Sparkle, jazz sizes
1961 Ludwig SBP 4 piece
1960's John Grey set in WMP
1999 Ludwig Fab Four BOP 4 piece
1991 PUrecussion set Ha Ha, love
1993 DW 5 piece
1979 Ludwig Vistalite smoke/clear Tivoli 5 piece

Storing them in the attic of a garage DOES qualify for EXTREME temperature changes. Is the garage climate controlled? If not, then yes that would be enough to make the wrap split....moisture would be involved too besides the extreme heat that would occur in any attic in the summertime.

The reason only this kit would have split and not the others is, again, because of the method used by Ludwig for attaching the wrap. They used the tape at the seam method back then, so the wrap would unfortunately be able to shift with temperature change independant of the drum shell.

Like I said before, I'm not suprised that Ludwig wouldn't do anything for you as they are long out of warranty. No company would to be honest with you.

Sorry to be so blunt, but that's just the way it is.
