Chrome over Vistalite

Ludwig produced a number of kits with solid white Vitstalite shells wrapped in Chrome. This option was already available with wooden shelled kits and the steel shelled drums were also selling well at this point. However, instead of this option being launched to capitalise on the unique sound of the acrylic shells, the 'Chome over Vistalite' kits were simply the result of an administrative error which resulted in a triple order of white shells being placed. The solid white (and black) kits weren't selling well and Ludwig had a pile of shells to get rid of. They were wrapped in chrome and sold to anybody strong enough to lift them!

Wow thats the second set of toms i have seen in the last week..A guy on ebay had a 14'',15'',18'' tom shells and a 24" bass drum he was parting them out selling the shells and parts in about 10 auctions..Shells went for cheap...Sad thing he made his money on the parts..I have also seen Ludwig Black vista's in chrome wrap from time to time...Mikey

Wow! that would be a quite a sight for me. This is the third chrome over white vista set that Ive seen in my life but chrome over black??? never!!! by the way: if someone has solid black 8x12 vista shell or complete tom please let me know!

Yeah Mikey I saw that one..its a pretty good deal for $40!...I have a 16x18 and a 12x15 solid black Vistas that im going to put together with an 8x12 for a funky little jazz set...I dont know...Im always in to weird projects that I never got to complete!
