I don't notice a difference while playing on the heads but I do notice a difference when doing rimshots and rim clicks.

I too don't hear a lot of difference. I think youre making the right call by getting the correct one for your drum though. just remember that they do dent up a little easier since they are softer than steel.

Place it on a flat surface (kitchen counter-top,) and make sure it's nice and flat before installing it.

Cheers John, I'll do that. The first thing I'll do is test it with a magnet. The seller assured me it was brass and came from an early 60's Supra. He also said it sits flat on the drum. I like the brass hoops on my WFL. When I was changing the heads on that snare I gave the hoop a tap with a stick and it had much more sustain and sounded more musical than the later chrome over steel hoops, so I'm sure having brass hoops on my cob snare will make a difference however subtle it may be.
