ludwig drum parts Last viewed: 4 hours ago

My name is Gerald Sterken. I've been a member for about 6 months but have never tried to introduce myself. I'm not in the business of buying and selling drum stuff. I'm just an old guy who likes collecting old drums that nobody wants anymore. Right now I have a 1961 Ludwig school festival snare drum . It is 6 1/2 x 15. I need a snare strainer and a muffler for it. I don't know what kind of muffler is correct for the drum. I think a P-83 strainer would be correct except when I look at the catalog pages for this drum the strainer handle looks different from any P-83's that I have on all my mid to late 60's Ludwig snares? Does anyone one have era correct parts for sale for a drum like this? I can't post pictures but I can send pictures to an email address. If someone wants to send me their email address I can send them to you and maybe you could post them for me. Thanks for any info you might have. Gerald.

in 61, they were still using some carryover wfl parts from the 50's. if your drum is a 61 and has a factory muffler, it would be a round knob muffler that they used before the red felt baseball bat mufflers. they went back to round knosbs in 68 but a different size.

a p83 would be correct for that. some of the early models had one with a different arm on it but was still called a p83. the later 60's (more common) version would work and would not be out of place on that drum.

is yours a natural mahogany finish exterior and interior as well?

sounds like a great drum. dont see too many of the 15's around.

Thanks for the reply Mike. Mine has a sparkle wrap ( red/white/red) and the interior is white. Everything looks original to my untrained eyes. I'd like to buy a muffler and P-83 if anyone has them.

Yes, it is stamped FEB 13 1961. There are inspector initials next to the vent hole.
