I believe the telephone dial rail mounts were all made by Walberg & Auge for the various drum companies. I'm pretty sure the actual rail portion that mounts with four screws and was bolted to the bottom of the tube was made especially for Ludwig or by Ludwig itself as well as the L Rod but the actual bracket arm with the phone dial tilter was OEM'd from W&A.

The Japanese also made a version of the telephone dial rail mount. Some are stamped "Made In Japan", some are not...And on top of that, they are not metric, but SAE, or American Standard.

I don't think I could agree any more.Back when I was a kid and had a new Ludwig set in 71 (bought a Pink Champagne Rock Duo set) I had so much trouble with slippage on the toms (had the double tom stand with the holes in the tube with virgin BDs) that I ended up going to Sears and buying a Craftsman socket and T-handle wrench just to replace the standard Ludwig "wrench" that came with it. It worked great, and although I don't still have the drums I do still have the wrench!Of course, I was playing Rock, so the drums got pounded pretty good and that tended to make them slip a little more...As I got older (in the mid-to-late 70s) and started playing in smaller clubs I added a new rail mount to one of the BDs (to drop down to a 4pc set from time to time), I still used my Craftsman wrench 'cause even with less of a pounding the tom still tended to want to slip. The down-side to a bigger wrench and more leverage is that I've seen (and have in my "stock") a lot of Ludwig brackets and mounts that were tightened down too hard and ruined...
Ditto for the new Champagne Sparkle kit in '71, except mine was a Big Beat kit. Same tom slippage. I have a few kits with the Ludwig brackets. I add an extra washer. keep them lubed so the won't bind, and use a regular mechanics open/closed-end wrench for extra leverage.

My Rail looks in to good a condition to be vintage, so I guess it's an "after market" part.
Won't get caught again.
If anybody want's to PM me I will email a photo so you can do your Sherlock Holmes, and, solve the mystery.
Not that I am bothered by how it looks, but I wanted value for my dollar.
everyone knows about the slippage, im trying a thin plastic gasket on the inner locking arm and im experimenting with thickness and it seems to help maybe even leather, something to add a Little meat so we dont have to crank so hard any other ideas out there?

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
If you are having a hard time getting things tight enough on a rail mount, put some grease on the threads on all of the clamping bolts. It will make it possible to get it tighter. Without the grease the friction of the threads under tension will make it very hard to get things tight enough.
Adrian,Here is a "new" Vintage arm and mount I bought from Ludwig a few years ago, with the straight knurl. They had to add a little clamp to keep the arm from not rolling over!!! The drum stick is pointing to the clamp. The clamp locks into the mount.A cheap fix on a lame arm. But it beats trying to piece one together out of old parts. Also I have used arm,if you are interested.
Good Luck with your project,MME

The arm is NOT the problem, it's the bracket. Sorry to say, but the eyebolt design has inferior holding power and is prone to sudden slippage, as anyone who has suddenly found their floor tom down on one side will know. The Ludwig Elite brackets exert much more grip on the arm, and so will most other clamshell brackets.
