I came across this snare at an online auction, and I cannot tell what this is. The badge throws me off for sure. Custom build for someone?
Any ideas?
Wouldn't make much sense to fake this model it seems? Badge is puzzling to me also.
Interior pics would help.
Now that's neat. Looks to be a 6.5 x14 (?) with a super sensitive mechanism? Cross between a Symphonic and a Super Sensitive? Interesting that it also has the center badge placement like the keystones had, but with the special blue/olive badge.
The badge doesn't have Ludwig on it, and the "Made For" is different.
If I can get it shipped I will snag it and post some pics!
What's the name of who it was made for? That might tell something if it's an endorser (or a friend of WFL II). That does look like Jr's signature.
The thing is so primitive looking that it seems that no forger would ever go to all the trouble to build the drum and then tack such a goofy badge on it...you know who would put such a badge on a drum? Bill Ludwig Jr. He wouldn't worry that it looked tacky since he made it (or had it made) for his buddy or whomever and doesn't care about the future resale (he knows it's real ).
Tough to say but people seldom bother to fake things when there is no reason to do so and why add such a glaring red flag if you've pulled it off....unless that's what they want us to think...hmmmm.
Very intriguing!
I've been following this thread with interest. So far, I would agree with what K.O. has said. Hope we can get more pictures.

How about reaching out to William Ludwig III ?
He may have some insight as to what his dad may have done.
He is a great guy and is always happy to answer questions, e-mails, etc.

I'm going to try and snag it! Not that it matters a ton, but what would the value be
for a snare like this if Ludwig Jr did build it?
