Meh. I don't like the look of the brushed lugs and hoops. I'll stick with my trusty '79 Acro, which I have been playing the snot out of for 10 years (and that I picked up for $50). But I do give props to Ludwig for doing stuff like this.

Now, Ludwig, about those flat Imperials...

It looks like someone took a can of silver spray paint from the hardware store and had at it. That's the first thing I think of when I see that.

I like the 6.5 classic, and I don't see any stinking gaskets under the lugs.I wonder how they compare in sound to my 65 acro?

Milled center bead?I thought it was part of the spun shell process, and done with a roller, and a die.Milled sugests an endmill, and a milling machine.AAhhhh Ludwig.

I think it's a good clean look. Maybe some of you guys inhaled too much of that grey acrolite powdercoat or black galaxy dust. :>)

Believe it or else!

There were original Acrolites w/ this soft, satin look. The vintage 5" are pretty common, so $539 for a new one seems quite high , even if it's discounted by stores at 30% off. The vintage 6.5" Acrolite is harder to find, so this new one may tempt drummers(but at $569, it is also a high price to pay).

The 6-1/2" is $569.00 MSRP. Most retailers sell for 40% off, making it

around $330 street price.

The shop where I work just ordered a few yesterday... I want to hear the 6.5. I also want to check out the new flat base hardware when it comes in.

They do offer it with the standard chrome hardware.

It does have just a little rod splay and should have used 1.6mm hoops instead of the 2.3mm, but the fit of the lugs around the bead is much better than it has been. I also see that they used a P-32 butt plate instead of the fat P-33.

All in all I think it is a good set up and deal.
