Ludwig Jazz Fest Black Oyster Pearl Last viewed: 13 hours ago

Well, this is a heads-up for a gem offered for sale. Clapping Happy2 After much soul searching I have decided to sell my Ludwig Jazz Festival snare drum in Oyster Black Pearl. This is the original sought after piece and a most authentic original instrument of its era. It is in VERY GOOD/EXC original condition. 5.5" X 14" It has a date stamp: Nov 23, 1965 and is quite readable thru the breather hole. The badge reads #224XXX and has some small tarnish spots below the ORIGINAL GROMMET. The shell has no extra holes, the wrap is near perfect, with minimal fading, no splits, cracks, tom rash or imperfections other than the normal very light scratches from handling and playing. The wrap is incorporated into the scarf joint which joins the wrap directly into the 3 ply shell (this is the defining factor of a factory original finish from this era.) All original parts. Top & bottom heads are new.

The snares are original with some minor bends, but straight and true when tension is applied. The hardware & rims are excellent with no rust, absolutely no pitting. The strainer works perfectly, as does the white felt muffler. The bearing edges and seams are flawless. The shell is perfectly in round and heads slip on easily. Please note: Bottom part of snare strainer was removed when these pics were taken. The drum has a full snare strainer and set of snares which were removed to get a good interior vantage point thru bottom head. Updated pics will be added in the coming days. Pictures will reflect varying lighting conditions, but features of drum are visible.

I also wanted to mention I just pulled the drum out of case that hasn't even been opened for 4 years. Drum was bagged inside of case and I got a nice breath of that wonderful smell of old 60's Ludwigs. It doesn't get any better than THAT LUDWIG SMELL.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

That's a great description on the drum !

I wish more Ebay auctions went into as much detail.

What's your asking price for this gem, Wadsmoe?

That could get me out of the running right away, and save you some time declining my and possibly others' inappropriately low offer.......

Good luck on your sale, she's a beauty !

This is an opportunity to buy a collectible drum. It's not an auction per se, anyone that is interested can make me a private offer. Party

Thanks Kevin. The eBay auction description will be more detailed, this description was trimmed back to be a little less encyclopedic. Please send PM with serious offers.
