Ludwig Jazz Festival inner ply issues Last viewed: 1 hour ago

First off the ebay seller has agreed to take the snare back so no issues or worries there. That being said this jazzfest is the first that I have seen some not so nice issues inside. Here is the link to the auction I won:

Outside a very nice drum with no mods. Inside there is some inner ply splits especially at the scarf joint. Even some wood missing and the seam lifting slightly.

Is this normal for mid 60's Jazzfests? Maybe I have been lucky so far and never had a jazzfest so rough inside.

Thoughts?

Manny

I'm buy no means a Ludwig expert but have a few Slingerland shells that have some of this. Mostly inner ply seperation and some splits from the seam edge inside. As wood ages and gets too dry or damp it's a normal sight. They can all be glued and fixed if you desire. If the snare is a matching one you need for a kit I wouldn't let those things get in the way. It's a really nice drum and the LBP wrap has great color still.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

absolutely normal. hide glue dries out the wood splits. This is a very common issue with almost all vintage wood drums.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I sent the drum back. My other jazzfests are not like that.
