You did VERY well! I, personally, would just wipe them down and get any surface grime off them (if there is any). But I guarantee you that part of the value of that kit is in the fact that it has its original Thermogloss finish -however flaked it is. The REAL value will be in the sound. The unwrapped shells will be slightly smaller in diameter which will mean that the heads will "float" better than on a wrapped shell.

Someone please add the photos from the eBay listing...

David,
For some weird, unknown reason, I can't pull pictures off eBay auctions on my Mac....or I can't figure out how to do it. Normally, I would do this right away -especially for this type of kit!flowers2

gwm,
Try to accept the finish as-is when you get the kit. Think of it in the same way as a guitar collector would view an original finish on a vintage Stratocaster. If you refinish it, it will just be another example of a Jazzette that someone changed. These kits are extremely rare. They are probably one of the rarest kinds of jazz drum kits in the world. Finding a matched shell pack in the original mahogany Thermogloss is ridonkulous. You did very well.

There is a utility called GrabIt that ships with the Mac. Pull up the pic and use GrabIt to capture the window that the pic is in. This will save it and all you need to do is open the new file with Preview and SaveAs a jpeg. There are other more streamlined methods, but this will work in a pinch.
A few more showing the rougher spots.

Those are as cool as they are rare! What about using a furniture wax on them? There are different brands that are tinted, or rather have different shades to match different woods. You wouldn't really be altering the original finish, just sprucing it up.
Those are quite a bit worse then the Jazzette I had 4-5 years ago......
But, I used Johnson's paste wax on them...........
Apply with 1-2 tablespoons wrapped up in cheesecloth, apply, let set 5 minutes, buff, done!
That did improve the look of them!

Thanks, but you clearly don't realize how stupid I am when it comes to computer stuff! ;)
(*seriously, thanks...I'll try it!)
