Does anyone know if Ludwig has addressed the pitting problem with the Ludwig LM400 Chrome Plated Aluminum Snare Drums they build now?

I remember reading or hearing ... sorry I can't cite any source for you... that the alloy of the early drums did not take plating well which resulted in the notorious pitting issue.

The newer shells come from a different supplier which addresses the plating incompatibility but it did make a little difference in the sound of the drum. However the biggest change in the tone came from the change in rims from COB to steel...

That may all be a bunch of bull but I remember that being the story. Hmmmm

Actually the rims change didn't make that big of a difference, but there is a sonic difference in the old shells from the new ones. I prefer the older shells talking ludalloy shells and brass shells. The older ones have a sonic sound difference from the new ones.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!
