Could somebody please tell me what year or years the Ludwig drum company produced drums with wraps that were rivetted onto the shells? I believe this was done sometime during the blue & olive badge era but I'm not exactly sure when nor why.
Any "words of wisdom" would be greatly appreciated.
I had a couple of B/O chrome wrap riveted 6 ply toms.those things by thier weight must have thought they were Sonors.I think they were around 1979- 81 period but I am not sure.I heard Ludwig got stung by EPA/osha type regulations and could not use glue to wrap shells until they met standards.
I have a 15x12 marching snare that has a riveted chrome wrap over the wood. I don't know what year it is, but it has the rounded edge blue and olive badge. I'm not sure what model it is either, but it has 10 high tension lugs and a P-87 throwoff.
Conversely, I also have a chrome over wood 14x6.5 snare (pics in my thread "I need help"...etc) and it has the pointy cornered B&O badge....and no rivets, just a nice even seam. I hope this helps.
I would say they used them between 81' and 85' all during the rounded B/O badge period. I know my 83' ChromeOwood kit has them. I have heard they were having trouble iwth the glued wrap seams opening up. They were having a lot of warranty issues. So this was there solution. People are really down on this period of Ludwig drums. But I think alot of the stigma is undeserved. These were good drums Built like tanks. People hate the Modular hardware too But you know what it worked and held up a lot better than the earlier stuff. Especially the tom mounts.
