Hello,
I recently picked up a bunch of Ludwig Standard hardware (4 cymbal stands, a snare stand and a hi-hat stand). It was a good deal, and they are all in really good shape. The issue I am having is that the most of the stands lean to one side (toward one leg of the tripod). I have the wingnut underneath as tight as I can and two of the legs are very tight with no movement, but the third leg is just slightly loose and "gives" a little bit, so therefore it leans towards that leg, and is a bit unstable and shaky.
Would using a smaller or larger washer(s) underneath the wingnut at the stand bottom help? It seems to me a larger washer wouldn't be as effective as a smaller one, because the way the legs angle down from the center, the large washer would cover more area, but would not be as tight near the center of the stand. Any thoughts?
Also, only one of the stands has the engraved 70's Ludwig logo on one leg, all of the other stands are nameless, but obviously Standards. Anyone know what the deal is with the engraving/stamping back in the day?
Does anyone know if there were any differences between the Standard cymbal stands and the classic flat base cymbal stands, other than the base? As far as I can tell, the middle and top sections look identical on my Standards as the classic stands. Did the Standard hi-hat stand also have the same clutch as the Classic "Spur-Lock" model? My Standard came with a classic style clutch (stop-wing nut, ludwig washer etc.)
Does anyone have any tips or tricks to fix the lean? I think the bases of these stands have a very unique look, and would like to implement them in my various setups. However, with the lean issue it would be difficult to use them.
Thanks.
