Ludwig Rail Consolette Last viewed: 18 hours ago

I've got a Ludwig rail consolette that was originally mounted on a bass drum with the Ludwig "pointy" B&O badge. The consolette's got the Ludwig "block" leterring engraved into it.

While mounted on the drum, I noticed that the piece didn't have the (2)plates that normally are positioned on the bottom of the piece, flush to the shell. Is this common for a Ludwig consolette from this era or are the plates simply MIA?

The plates are MIA. All of that style consolette had the plates.

Are the nuts original? Shouldn't they both be of the longer variety rather than the shorter stock kind you buy in a hardware store? The reason I'm asking is that I have 2 60s consolettes that I'm trying to find parts for. Thanks.

Although I've been called a "nut" (among other things), I wasn't sure whether all the nuts on the piece were original until I tried to adjust the tension on the three of them with my trusty Ludwig wrench. The wrench (see attachment) fit perfectly on all of them excluding the shorter one on the top of the piece that tightens the L-arm into place.

Fortunately, I've found a "correct" (i.e., longer) one on e-Bay and am currently waiting for it to be delivered.

I believe that those same ones were also used on rack tom mounts too? Any idea what era those nuts were used on toms instead of wing nuts?

YES...........5/16.

I believe that you're also correct in regard to the rack tom mounts.

I can't comment on the wing nut issue since I simply don't know.
