Ludwig rock duo 1969-70 Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

I bought this kit in 1971 second hand. I believe its a Ludwig Rock duo, Black diamond pearl. Date stamps & serial numbers 1969.

Double bass 20" twin toms 12" & 13" Floor tom 18" Super sensitive snare 14"

1960's Zildgen 22" & 20" med ride 1970's Zildgen 16" crash and 70's Ludwig paiste Hi hat and 16" cymbal. The other 16" floor tom is not Ludwig and I would like to find one that is.

Just finished polishing and repairing the snare. I had to make the plastic

cam slides (I am a machinist) for the Super senitive throwoff. But I still have the originals that are broken. Don't want to use them in action. I love this snare.

Also just put Evans hydraulic heads on all but the snare and it sounds good to me now. Emads on the bass drums and the fronts are ebony Weathermaster with logo.

I was thinking of selling them to buy something new, before I did what I did and now I am glad I stuck with them. I intend keep on playing this kit as long as I can.

No amount of planning will ever replace dumb luck.

You are correct, sir!Burger Kin Thin, 3-ply shells with solid maple re-rings

Your shells have clear maple interiors

The thick "core" ply is lightweight poplar

and the outer ply is also maple

The reinforcement rings AKA "re-rings" are solid maple

Since these 3-ply shells are late 60's clear interiors, they are devoid of the wrap being sandwiched into the scarf joint, itself.

O-lugs...so the painted 3-plys have the overlapped wrap/ply on exterior...but not the nat'l interior shells ?

(Sorry Allen...don't mean to hijack the thread) ;)

The clear, MAPLE interior ply drums from late 60's onward are that way. There are earlier drums with an interior mahogany ply that still have the wraps tucked into the scarf joint.

So what does this mean? good or bad?

Yes I wish I had the 16" Floor tom and will be on the lookout to find one someday.

In the meantime those rubber feet sound like a good Idea, where on line?
