I was wondering how much my late 1960's Ludwig Silver Sparkle kit is worth.

here are the serials:

Snare: 664409

Bass Drum: 694548

1st tom: 689586

2nd tom: 694365

Floor tom: 696417

-Silver Sparkle

-2nd to the original owner

-most hardware

-same era road cases

-matching storage throne (Throne has serial, but I forgot to write it down. Drums are not on hand, they are at a different location.)

I had a similar 1971 Ludwig set in silver sparkle that I sold a few months ago for $625 on Craiglist. Yours are a little older, and the keystone badges make them more desirable; I also didn't include a vintage Supersensitive snare, cases, or most importantly, a matching canister throne. Those thrones alone can fetch upwards of $300 or $400 bucks. I'm not an expert, but unless there are some horrible hidden issues like water damage, I'd say that kit with everything shown in the photos would sell as a package for $1400 to $1600, maybe more depending on your location, and whether you sell it locally or on eBay. You'd probably get a little bit more if you separated it out, and sold the snare, throne and pedal individually.

Scott has given you good advice, I wouldn't sell it for no less than $1600.00 towards $2000.00 the canister throne is super rare in this condition the cases, the accessories in the canister throne, are you selling the cymbals and stands?

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I have the same era cymbals, but idk if I'm going to part with them yet. Thinking about it though, they are zildjians. The cymbal stands are in the rolling box in the last picture along with the snare stand.

I'm wanting to get at least $2000 and up like $4+

Ive seen 3 piece kits that are 1968 that are selling on ebay for $4000, and thats not even with the cases or matching throne or anything.

Basically I would really like to get as much as i can out of them.

You may see them listed for that, but in silver sparkle, not likely. Now, if it were Black Oyster Pearl, or Sky Blue Pearl, with matching Jazz Fest snare you might get that much, but as for the silver sparkle, not really going to get much more than 1500-2000. It's just the market. If you go and search completed sales for silver sparkle on ebay, then you will get the best average of what you can realistically expect.

Jonni was correct in stating that silver sparkle just doesn't bring the mean dough, though. They are keystones, but they are the center post mounted ... not as much of a money-maker as the hot dog. Sorry, just the way it is.

My guess - if you get 2 grand, you should absolutely buy a lottery ticket, 'cause you just won, big time.

That canister throne is the cash cow. Use it to your benefit if you're money driven.

You've got the numbers. Put 'em up for sale and get what you get. Good luck.

I agree with jonni. There's no way that would fetch 4 grand. You might have $1500 or $1600 there. But I disagree with parting out the matching canister throne to try to get more out of it. I feel they are worth more as a complete set, with matching canister and original stands, cases etc.

Thanks guys for the info!

I'm going through school and money is really tight right now. So thats why I'm selling my drum set.

Like mcjnic was saying i could get $2000 and be lucky. Or I could get that or maybe a little bit more from someone that doesn't know any better. :D

Just put the word BONHAM in the ad title, just like everyone else who has anything remotely Ludwig-related.

This is precisely why we are steering away from these "what's it worth" threads.
