Ludwig snare advice? Last viewed: 5 hours ago

I'm in the market for a ludwig snare, possibly a Buddy Rich or Super Classic. Is there a better era or "badge" than another? Is the Transition badge any better or worse than the WFL or 60's Keystones? Were any of them made any better or worse than another? And does any sound better or worse than another? Just new to vintage Ludwigs and want to know all the facts before I buy. Please help!

i think they all sound good and ive got them from those eras. transition badge drums seem to be real popular. they and the pre serials were prior to the big production increase in the mid 60's. so, quality control might have been better at that time. wfl drums are top quality as well. i dont think you can go wrong.

I think the best Ludwigs were the late 60's(c.1968) early 70's drums w/ the maple/poplar/maple shells, maple reinforcement hoops, & shaped bearing edges. The period you're talking about is OK, but the bearing edges were sloppy, uneven,& misshapen, w/ no little or no effort put into them .
