Ludwig Snare drum ID Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I bought this from an ebay seller for a project that's cookin'.

But I can't identify it. The badge has a black line frame from around the serial ##, which is 3051117.

Era? I am also wondering about the shell composition, and whether the strainer is complete.

In short... I don't know much about it.

Help?

Off the cuff : badge & grommet look very, very messed with. Shell definitely looks non-Ludwig - too thin, bearing edge looks almost Yamaha-ish in its angle. But then again, I could be drinking - so take this w/ a grain of salt until another cat chimes in -

I knew it was a rewrap when I bought it. So the grommet/badge have for sure been changed.

As for shell... there are no extra holes around the snare throw off or butt plate, and there are holes for the muffler. No extra holes around the lugs either.

Is that throw off complete?

looks good to me...

the strainer is correct for the #..

1979/80..shell looks good.

8 lug..with a replacement snare wires..

value around $250/300 seems about right..

Does the badge look to be flat on the shell or peeling off.?

No, the badge is not tight. It was replaced after the re-wrap.

I may find a way to secure it...i.e., a drop pf glue.

But I intend to add some nice Ludwig heads and snare wires...

could be a chrome over wood that was unwrapped and rewrapped. some of those have that same interior.

For a short time between using up the 3-ply maple shells and the 6-ply shells which came later, Ludwig made/used some 4-ply shells for a little while. That one looks like one of the four ply shells without the re-rings. How does it sound? That's all that matters.

Too many great drums to list here!
