Ludwig snare ID Help Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Hi everybody!

So I just listed this Ludwig hammered bronze snare on ebay and I received a question from a guy about what year it was from. I told him I didnt know but the Serial No. was 3066654. I told him if i were to take a stab in the dark I'd say early 90's. This totally blew the sale! he was lookin for one from the early 80's which got me wondering... I was hoping I could get a general consensus here on the forum of an approximate date and your reasoning for such, since you all seem pretty competent at this vintage drum ID'ing and I haven't a clue.

Thank YOU!!!!

Hi there!

IMHO, regarding badge, serial num and muffler, it´s probably a `82-83.

Good Luck

I wonder - If the buyer wants one from the early 1980s so bad, shouldn't he know how to tell if it is from the early 1980s?

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

I totally agree with you both.

He must have realized immediately considering his request was so specific about the period ...

All due respect, I guess serial number 9.xxx.xxx it´s not possible on a Ludwig B/O Series.

Hey all. In fairness, Lersch is right about the number I gave him. I wanted an answer and didn't feel I needed to give a long story about i to get it. My bad, I screwed up haha. Couldn't hsve predicted he was a member!

Again thanks for all the info guys.

Absolutely no problem here and I'm glad that you came here to ask. I merely needed clarification as to what the number really was as a 9xxxxxx wasn't a possibility so I asked about the age. Bu the way, I sent you another message via eBay. Thanks again for making the effort, it's appreciated.
