Ludwig Snare Last viewed: 11 hours ago

I recently purchased a set of Ludwig drums for my 12 year old son. From my research, they look to be Rockers. The date stamped inside the Bass drum is July/88. They have the B/W badges starting with a 612 prefix and The stained shells not the speckled. This looks to be the LR-2227-RM kit in the Silver Smoke. The only thing I can't figure out is the snare. It has the B/W badge, but the snare is Black. From what I have found the Rocker snare was Chrome. Any idea on what this might be. Oh by the way, I paid $400 for the entire set and they are in really good shape. The only difference from the picture in the 88 brochure is that the double tom stands have the cymbal attachements, so it is a total of 13 pieces. Was it worth the price?

Thanks

If the snare is black and kind of speckled, it is a Galaxy Acrolite, a much better snare than the POS original snare. Acrolites are good snares. As far as value...eh, 400 is an ok price, if they are in good condition, I suppose. They are not really considered "vintage" drums by this community as they are post 1980. Ludwigs changed dramatically in the late 70s and lost their charm, so they are not really highly desirable drums past this era. You can post some pictiures, that might help a bit. Good luck with them, and keep coming back, you may find a better set after the little guy learns and wants to step up to a great set of drums in the future. These will serve well for a beginner.
