I just played mine on a gig tonight. A great, dry, poppy Acro sound, great for rock or whatever. $50 is a great price for one of these, they're actually harder to come by than Acros and Supras.

Just picked one up myself at Music Go Round for $45+tax; I'd never seen one before and wasn't sure if it'd be a turkey or an Acro-like sleeper. I once had the student-model Slingerland aluminum snare and (at least the one I had) it was a dog. I'm now eager to get her set up and give it a try.

The Standard still has a spun seamless shell. It's the same as the acro/supra shell but minus the center bead. I don't think the aluminum Slingerlands were seamless and didn't they have that flat folded over bearing edge?
agreed ko. to me, the slingerland ribbed aluminum snare sounds much like the first generation(often called prototypes) acrolites.
