Ludwig Standard's - Rate the wraps Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hello boys and girls! Yes, it is indeed I... missing the drum discussion due to a massive overdose of 'remodeling'. However, I do have a serious question to ask, and I'm very interested in your opinions.

First, the question:

Which is the most scarce (dislike using rare here) 'original' Standard series wrap. By original I mean the first series of 'Standard's' ca. 1968 - 1971 give or take. The ones with the original triangle badge.

The wraps can be seen here:

I'll go first... I'm going to group them by styles for my opinion. You may do it however you want... this isn't scientific, it's just opinions.

IMHO: The sparkles run a close second in scarcity to the Astro wraps. I think the Astro's are very scarce. The silver being the most scarce, just because I've never seen anything with that wrap. Next, the sparkles. I think the least seen sparkle would again be the silver. I've only seen one, while I've seen a few gold, red and blue. Last would be the Strata's. Lemon HAS GOT to be the most scarce of them. Red, the most popular.

I've never done a poll, let's try one! First by type; Strata, Sparkle or Astro being the least seen.

Okay, your turn!

I've seen quite a few of the Silver Astro wrapped kits, but they were identified as White ... a very common mistake made by sellers.

I would have to go with Gold Strata being the least seen of the Strata's. A lot of Bronze Strata kits are identified as Gold ... another common mistake.

I have to agree with you on the Silver Mist. I've only seen a few. It may be very close in a tie with Gold Mist, but I think the Silver is less seen.

My favorite is the Gold Mist and Gold Strata (if the black lines aren't too distinct and the gold is prominent).

By the way ... welcome back. Glad to see ya here again!

Just cast my vote for the "Astro" finishes. Judging simply by the three categories, the Astro finish is the most rare. From there, you certainly have the rare colors within each category, which I'm sure everyone will chime in on.

I had a Standard S-300, Blue Mist, with original white ResoCoat interiors! The supplied pictures were taken quite some time ago and are small.

I must say that I am not a fan of the standard lugs and finishes but, that blue mist is real cool, and I really dig that single tom mount!

I LOVE how the Blue Mist will eventually fade into a mellow teal green. Absolutely cool.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I would say the Strata wrap's are common. The sparkle or mist are next. The astro finish to me are the rarest finish to fine.I have seem them in white, gold, blue, red but not to many sets. But i think the rarest of these astro finish is the purple i have only seen one and thats because i have a set of them....Mikey

After voting it looks like Astros are winning (I always have liked that dog), I really do like the look of Stratas though, here is a picture of the kit I just parted with, such a beauty.

I love the looks of the Astro finish, but would probably not want to own a set. It gives the appearance that the drums are actually bending time and space. ;)
