Ludwig T-Rods - Longer Version Last viewed: 16 minutes ago

I recently disassebled a 1966 Ludwig bass drum and found that the T-Rods used were longer than any I have ever seen.

They are definately Ludwig T Rods, but what drum would have used a 5-1/2" rod?

Were these possibly for the Power Bass Drum Shells made in the 1980s?

Clubdate drums used long T-rods. I don't know the length offhand, but I would guess more than 5.5".

My Slingerland Stage Band takes Close to 7''. Having problems finding a full set of those as we speak. Just scored 8 off Ebay tonight. May have to machine the others until I find 8 others!

But the ones used on club date kits, wouldn't those be "bow tie" style? Or did they make a kit that took the later style like those made in the 60s and 70s?

Some marching bass drums came in a 10" depth with single lugs, which might use rods around that length.

t120bonneville: Drum Factory Direct and drummaker.com have rods that might work for you. No 7-inchers, but they do have 6½", 8¼", and 9¾" (measured from underneath collar to end).

Thanks. I already talked to them and they would have been just too short.

I did solve the problem but ,oh my, it was a pain in the a**! I went to Faetenel and special ordered 12/24 threaded rod. Then cut round stock and essentially manufactured my own custom length T Rods.I cut the rod to length, inserted it into the drilled hole and Mig welded them into a single unit. I then ground and polished them until they looked acceptable. I then went to the hardware store and got some proper diameter nylon bushings and washers and bingo! T-Rods! I don't think anybody will mistake them for original or factory ( well maybe off a Kent set!) but they will do until i can find a better solution.

One thing that is puzzling me about this bass drum is that the lugs are not centered on the shell ( Single lug, Slingerland Stageband set up. Shelbyville) the front lugs had to be at least a 1/2'' longer then the players side, the lugs are that far off!! I got around it but has anyone else seen this?

I will post pictures of this project sometime this week. Dont get too excited about it, it will be a players kit as I converted a marching tenor to a floor tom for it, no way was I going to find a Shelbyville 14'' tom for this thing.

Thanks guys!
