Hey gents........how significant is a crack on a bass drum shell? The crack starts from the center of the badge and stops at the bass drum mount. It is not right through, just on the inside. I do realize any crack isn't a good thing by any means, especially on a Vistalite kit. That being said, will this crack eventually or inevitably crack right through? Will it destroy the drum? How significant is this? Thanks for your help........DOH

Well a crack is never a good thing. But its not all the way through and they sell acrylic welding products so you can probably save it from getting worse. I cant recommend one but I am sure someone else will chime in who can,

Come on gents......I feel like a PARIAH!! Out of so many knowledgeable drummers, pro's, experts......somebody out there must have some more opinions on this matter. Remember...he who has never sinned throw the first stone:D
Hmmm... So, you were sinning when it cracked...? That's a bit different.
Seriously, get some Dichloromethane (DCM or methylene chloride). It's going to need to be the very thin stuff, not the thicker version for filling cracks. I would put it in a syringe (TB syringe or insulin syringe will be fine) and run a stripe along the outside of the drum (after dis assembly of course) and it will run right into the crack and fuse the acrylic. Might even be hard to see afterwards. Then you get to wait until it's completely dry and sand and polish the shell!! This is the fun part!!!
Or find a plastics shop in town and see if they will do the repair for you. DCM is known to the state of California to cause cancer (hell, even sugar causes cancer in a rat if you pack it in constantly....) so be careful with the stuff if you do it yourself.
Good luck!
