Woah, seems I'm good company.

The 49 Buddy is a peach.

Cheers for sharing.

Blonkins... are you dampening yours with anything, or playing it wide open?

I'm just leaning a moongel against the rim on the very edge of the head to cut done on some ring....

Playing wide open at the moment.

However this is the first time I've played it and I'm having to play quietly with piano and acoustic bass.

Gave it a good whack at the end of rehearsals and I think the slightest bit of dampening like you suggested is probably the way forward.

Its funny you asked that question because it's exactly what I was thinking about doing.

That's the reason I wound up with mine. The previous owner needed something more subdued. These snares are LOUD.......

Kevins. Wfl is a museum piece really!!! this is a 40's Wfl 6x14" blue sparkle buddy rich super classic, the moongel suggestion is a great and cheap way to change the volume and tone of your wfl!!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Yep.... you should know, you are the one that taught me about not laying it flat down ( Thanks !! ) .... just lean it on there, it's enough in most cases.

Yep, it would be a 6 inch

Hey Kevins, you sure yours is a 6'' from bearing edge to bearing edge?

According to Cooks book, there aren't any snare drums in this era

that were 6''. Buddy Classic was a 5.5 and the New Classic, which I have,

is a 6.5. Of course Cooks book could be wrong too... :)

Would be cool if yours a 6'', sounds more rare at any rate.

Mine is 6.5,...... same as Blonkins snare. I referred to mine as being Blonkins older brother......

I was talking about TeenageBrains' '49 BR in that post, sorry if it wasn't clear.

That was the first thing my buddy Vintagemore asked me the other day, if it was a 6 or 6.5...... he was curious about a rarity too !! Got me to pulling off the batter to double-check.... lost a damn t-rod washer in the process... never did find it BTW Vintage. I guess the vacuum will find it next time I clean house !! LOL

Heh, np man. I have 2 WFL snares, my older of the 2 is a New Classic

Ray McKinley 6.5 and my newer one of the 2 is just a 5.5'' Super Classic.

My 5.5 sounds WAY better than the older deeper one which is due to

the bearing edges I think. Debating whether or not to modify the

edges since it has never been touched, except the calf heads are gone

and the original snare wires are gone. Heh, I guess it has been

touched but at least no weird holes and strainer changes.
