Ludwig's NEW Atlas Hardware Last viewed: 2 hours ago

From Purdie Shuffle

I don't much care for the block feet. However, Atlas hardware is reliable and it works. I'll wait until the prices level off at a saner range. The 'introductory' price for the line is 'a bit rich' considering the competition out there and the current state of the economy. I'm a little disappointed. Ludwig should have put a better price point on them. They'd sell a million units and make up the difference in volume. I don't get the killer high prices for a product that is supposed to compete with everything else that's available out there. How many do they expect to sell if, for example, their Atlas snare stand is priced at twice the price of ten other offerings out there. If you can get a new snare stand, plus a cymbal stand for the same price as a single Atlas stand, how many guys are going to choose the Atlas? I don't get their logic at Ludwig. Great idea, bring back the Atlas line... then they go and price it well over the average guys head. I thought charging twice what something is worth was DW's job. Go figure. John

I think Ludwig went after DW's 9000 line of hardware with the Atlas Pro line.....the 9000 series is pretty pricey too.....neither is in my arsenal, and probably will not be due to the high cost. I know a couple of guys who use the 9000 series, and they have already gone through numerous stands and pedals. Yes, they are hard on their gear, but the 9000 is supposed to be top of the line stuff, supposedly super-heavy-duty. I guess what I'm getting at is, the high price point is supposed to equate to ruggedness, but not in the case of the DW 9000 stuff. For the time being, as I stated before, I'm staying with the Yamaha hardware I currently use with my Ludwigs.

Yamaha/Slingerland for me. Very well made and relatively light. Plus I can often find boom stands in the $40-$50 range on CL.

I checked out the new line of hardware...it looks awesome. Would love to replace my gigging hardware with this new stuff............that being said, it would be expensive......must start putting some pennies aside for this gear.

I am sooooooooo excited about this! I just sent a couple speed kings off to DremMechanix to get redone. As soon as my tax return gets here, I'm getting some new atlas hardware baby. I have all Pearl 1000 series hardware right now that I love, but man, I'm a sucker for having everything Ludwig. Except cymbals of course ;)
