Ludwigs with duel tone controls Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hello Ludwig fans

I have interest in a Keystone badge Ludwig kit

but I noticed the toms have duel tone controls

Baseball bat for the resonant sides and large knobs for the batter side

I have read about duel tone controls before

but a mixture of two styles on the same drum?

Also I am not a Ludwig expert but the knobs do not look right

while they do look well built, they seem bigger than most of the Ludwig tone control knobs I have seen.

I would love to be 100% wrong on this btw

What say you???

Mr. Kenwood,

The muffler assemblies with the round knobs are Rogers.

I was also thinking Rogers. I could see if they were on the bottom. Regular bat mufflers up top and then someone wanted to add reso mufflers and decided on the Rogers. But having them up top and the bats on the bottom is confusing. Of course we don't know...hole wise..what's under the Rogers mounting plate.

Hello green glass drum,

Thanks for your response

The seller makes no mention of that, and I think it is most likely that he does not know

The kit according to him sat for forty years in storage

They are near mint again, according to the seller

and aside from the tone controls they look great

the asking price is $1,400.00 with a six hour round trip to pick them up

so what do you think everyone

Mike I was confused by that as well

I would guess the bats were up top originally

or maybe duel bats with Rogers knobs added later

but this guy refitted the snare with one as well ?

The Rogers Mufflers look very strange on that kit.

To me, it is kind of a deal breaker.

But thats just me.

This Forum has made me super picky about parts.

Now the holes for the Rogers Mufflers are:

1 upper and 1 lower. Probably 3/16" holes for 8-32 screws to mount the plate.

Center hole for knob screw probably 1/4" diameter for a 10-32 adjusting screw.

I think if you were lucky enough to have/find/buy 3 Baseball Bat mufflers.

Which are not cheap. ( I have 1 extra RED Felt)

At least 1 hole would show when you installed them.

Maybe 2.

Those muffs are just kind of a bummer to guys like us who want it all original or at least ALL LUDWIG.

That's a really nice drum set. I would not mess with it. It looks great. Play it and be proud of it.

Ludwig did on occasion install dual mufflers. However, most people yank them. So since you have them still, and it's clear the ones on top are rogers... I'd lay money the owner probably installed them. Find original mufflers for the top and you have only one extra hole... or just rock it as is...

I'd guess that the original owner either asked a drum shop to install the Rogers mufflers, or he did it himself. Some people prefer the round-knob style so I could imagine going with the BB ones on bottom & the preferred round-knob ones on top. Especially since there's one on the snare. A look inside should tell more of the story. Nice drumset. Could be all anyone would ever need............marko
