So what's the difference with brass and bell brass?

Brass is brass and bell brass is cast B20 bronze. Cast bronze shells are heavy, thick and tend to have a lot of body. Bell brass snares also tend to be expensive because of the casting method.

To my ears they have their own sound with low pitched harmonics and a lot of body. As I told you I had a 14x4 snare that had a killer crack and a lot of body. It was 3mm thick and weighted something between 7 and 8 kilograms.

Remember those 90's insanely heavy bronze Sonor Signature monster snares? Those are bell brass. Jeff Ocheltree also did some bell brass snares as well as Tama in the 80's. As far as I know only Ocheltree, I correct my previous post on this thread, has 13x7 snares so this 13x6 is rare.
