From thesoundoffreedom

Well put.......so true. Watch out cause' your thread may be erased depending on who deems it to be offensive and of course depending on who you are friends with, it may never come down. This simply may be a bad, overdrawn storm that will eventually pass.....I hope, but I'm still waiting....:(

Thesoundoffreedom!...

Well now... the ONLY one's that can "erase your thread" are either the moderator.. ( and that would be me ) .. or the owner/webmaster of the VDF. I read your post and took pause to understand what you are trying to convey here. We do have license to edit/oversee the day to day posts here because David pays the bills... he keeps it runnin'... he owns it. He depends on me to manage it, for lack of another term.. and .. with currently over 11,600 members, although only a fraction of those are ACTIVE on a daily basis, it can be a daunting task, and yes, sometimes posts/threads are going to get pulled at OUR DISCRETION. That said...

Our editorial stance at the VDF is pretty wide open/free. The "erasing" of threads/posts has absoulutely NOTHING to do with who "you are friends with". It has EVERYTHING to do with what direction and/or language a particular thread/post takes. This isn't an "old boys club" where certain members get preferential treatment. I have been here in this capacity since the beginning in 2005. Can't say that I have ever in that time seen suggestion or mention of threads being erased or allowed to remain because of whom someone "was friends with". If a thread/post is OFFENSIVE, and we deem it so, then yeah... it's going to get deleted. In some cases, a thread will be CLOSED, but allowed to remain for a couple days so the general membership can all view the closing comments, and then... it gets DELETED. All this said though... we DO run a pretty easy going forum here with very little owner/moderator interference. Just sayin'.

May I just add my voice and say I love it here. I used to be a regular at Drums My Life some years ago and that was truly a mud slinging match the entire time. I have learnt, in fact, am learning so much about Vintage drums from what I believe to be a caring community. Long may it live.

Thanks

"Now its a sh!t show and a b!tchfest" Man, I respectfully disagree! IMO, this site is ran very well and there are some really great people here. I have witnessed acts of kindness here that are truly great! I have witnessed people that have never met, sending drum parts to one another for FREE! Yes, to help a drum brother out! Ask a serious question about drums and see how many people respond. That is not what I would call a "sh!t show and a b!tchfest". Google it and you will find some of those. Just my 2 cents worth.

> now its a sh!t show and a b!tchfest.Unless there are a bunch of invisible posts in this thread, it looks like -you- are the only one who is 'b!tching' here.Note: You are not 'forced to read' any threads that upset you. Rather than censor everybody else, how about using the block feature, or simply 'not reading' any of the threads you find so personally painful.John

Ok, I did read all of the responses but like this one the most. I dont see it either and I lurk here every day. I cant say anything more thats allready been said but well maybe this,,,

Happy new year!

As a member since 2006, I can say with no doubt that there is more "firestarters" (for lack of a better term) here then when I joined. I have reduced the amount of posts I leave rather dramatically from the first 5 years. I have been ridiculed in emails, PM's and on other sites by some members. It's a shame that someone feels they have to say "this forum is really going to ****" and that others agree.

Here's a sound bit of advice to all who think they have something that needs to be said or typed on this forum. It's better to have people think you're a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

READ THIS: I say this not in anyone's general direction, but to everyone equally. If you think this forum is crap, then either step up or step out. As a member, I don't care to hear about how bad you think the forum is, how you think someone might be a liar, or how you think the mods are not doing their job. What purpose does it serve to make these thoughts become posts?

I find it especially sad how a member with 3 posts who is a "reporter" doesn't double check his facts regarding time, but has all the time in the world to read that person previous posts and accuse them of something without facts. I find it equally sad how a member with so many posts here, prefers to stick their nose in everyone's business without knowing facts, then has the audacity to tell another member to how to conduct their business with other members.

From kindergarten I learned most of the things that I know today on how to conduct myself, all which pertain to the most common denominator. Be nice to others and keep your own kitchen clean....

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....
