Im thinkin about makin my marchin' snare into a acoustic (unplugged) jam drum. Im thinkin about wood hoops. I would have a snare and a tom. I think it will work, Hands n fingers can make plenty of sound in a acoustic inviorment. So, now the project has a new denemsion, something that I will be actually playin , and , hopefully, cool and unique. the top hoop or rim is my 1st concern.

Hi,
I made a drum like this a while back. Mine was 10" deep by 14" diameter. regular snares on bottom and a Remo Fiberskyn djembe head on top. Kind of like a Remo Mondo snare but with a real wood shell instead of Acousticon. Wood hoops top and bottom. I wanted it to be a snare/conga-ish/tom. It worked _ ok_ but I wound up cutting it down to 6.5" deep and using a regular head on top. This was after I scored a sweet set of vintage oak Gon Bops congas for a song. I'd be happy to offer any of my experiences plus I think I still have the Remo djembe head if you wanted it. I would let it go for cheap.
