Matching old red sparkle Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

Here goes, first question post. I want to wrap a floor tom to match my recently acquired red sparkle Ludwig Club Dates, which I believe never came with a floor tom. The term 'combo' comes to mind. Does anyone know if the wraps available today will be a good match to the vintage version?

If your Club Dates aren't faded, then new red sparkle should match real close. It's still made the same as it always has been, afaik. I love my red club dates--gonna gig 'em tomorrow with a zydeco band.......marko

Jammin sam will send yo a free sample of his wrap. And I think they now have red and blue sparkle in a specail price.

The special price stuff is more like (although not an exact match) to the "mist" colors that used to be offered on Ludwig Standards. I got a sample of the black sparkle in this week...

As has been stated, today's red sparkle will be a very close match, provided your wrap hasn't faded. Both Jammin Sam and Precision Drum Company both offer the same wrap. While you can certainly order the wrap from Jammin Sam with hi-bond tape installed for easier application, the proper way would be to fully glue the wrap to the shell.

I just wrapped a couple drums in red sparkle from Precision to match a BD that has hardly any fade, if none.

The new stuff is a little darker, but doesn't bother me too much.

For awhile, Ludwig used a two-sided wrap (red sparkle on one side, blue sparkle on the other) if that's the wrap that was used on your drums, you're never going to find a modern 'stock' version that will match. Take my word for it, been dere, done dat!

If it's one-sided stock, a modern red sparkle should be close enough for government work.

Too many great drums to list here!

When I really look at it, IMHO, it isn't a color difference so much as that I think the old Ludwig wrap literally has more sparkles in it. The new stuff has more black areas making it seem darker.
