I got a Clifford Brown cd awhile bach because I really liked the drumming.I find out it is Max Roach.Even in the 50's he was smokin Hot!I was wondering if any of you fellow drummers had his cd's?? If so which would be a good starting point..The cd I do is Clifford Brown/Finest Hour.Excellent cd...

That's one of my favorites, it's soooo good. Saxophone Colossus by Sonny Rollins is another classic, I'm sure you've heard it.

Ill second "saxophone colossus" and any Clifford Brown, Max Roach collaboration on Emercy. A few of my favorite Max Roach albums are: "Deeds not Words" , "drums unlimited", "jazz in 3/4 time", and "chattahoochee red". Max is perhaps my favorite drummer to listen to.

Percussion Bitter Sweet is fantastic! Also if you can find it-Freedom Now Suite with Abbey Lincoln, might just blow your socks off.

Thanks for this thread. I've been enjoying Max for the past couple of days. :)

Some of the album graphics show him with drums other than Gretsch (Rogers and Ludwig). I always thought he was Gretsch to the bone.
