From bumzdrummer

Maybe a stupid question but if I have to choose a weekend in Memphis or Nashville? Which One? Live music, music sites, and vibe? I have never been to either and will get to one soon for music tourist as a drummer and night life/bands Thx, Lew

Try them both! They are only 3.5 to 4 hours apart by car. Interstate highway all the way. Somewhat longer by Greyhound bus......believe me, I know.

I would suggest both if you have the time. I enjoy the live blues in Memphis a lot. Nashville has a but more variety as it is far from just being Country music. Good eats in both cities. Memphis Drum Shop to the west and Fork's Drum Closet in Nashville. If you go to Nashville, take some time to walk through the Opryland Hotel.

Don't forget to try the BBQ in Memphis. Some of the best you'll ever have.

I tried Neelys BBQ when I was there and it was just amazing. The pork or beef ribs(which are Fred Flintstone size),pulled pork and the slaw and beans were equally amazing.

Enjoy the show.

Go to the Belmont Grill for a burger.

Go to Fino's for a sub.

Go to to The P&H to shoot pool.

Go to the Peabody for a cocktail.

Go to the Rendezvous for ribs.

Then hang out on Beal St and you will have had a good time. :D

Working in Memphis this week and took off for a couple of hours to visit the Memphis Drum Shop. Very enjoyable. Nice drum shop and the collection of vintage gear was pretty great as well. Not for sale but for display purposes. I had to go back in twice. Pretty great drum shop and nice staff. Two big thumbs up.

Rendezvous for bar-b-que last night was spectacular.
