Mid 60's Jazz Fest Shell Last viewed: 1 hour ago

How much would you pay for a silver sparkle shell (only) with wrap that is in very good condition and no extra holes? I am guessing no more than $100. I have seen complete snares go for $250 to $300 on the bay, so is $100 still too high?

I figure hoops, throw-off, butt plate, muffler, heads and wires are going to cost at least $$200 - $250.

Maybe it's just better to get one on the bay. CryBaby But this shell needs saved.

Thanks,

Tim

$100 is a bit in the high range. The missing parts will add up to a snare that may be a tad cheaper or equal to the price of a complete drum. It will have been a project/time investment that breaks even. This kind of price for a shell is only a good deal if one is already sitting on a majority of the parts. (I see that the average price for Jazz Festivals on ebay "completed listing" is close to $400 + - . (the "Buy it Now" asking prices are preposterous)

For me - about the only time a stripped down whatever works is if you have a stash of replacement parts in your workroom that completes a project - & it'd better be cheap enough to bother with.

The ? that instantly popped up in my mind is w/ the heck is someone stripping a J-Fest w/ an otherwise nice wrap/shell for? Maybe the shell isn't "all that." I'd keep my eye out for a solid, complete J & not bother piddling around.

Good luck with the hunt - Chris

Thanks for all of the replies.

The shell looks like it was found in someone's garage or basement. Someone probably started to work on it and just never completed it. There is dirt and dust on the inside of the shell, so it was probably missing a head for some time.

It actually has the lugs, top hoop, snare butt and half of the throw-off, so it's far from complete. I figured it would be easiest to get an estimated value for the shell and adjust the price accordingly for the parts that are present.

I don't have a parts stash yet. But if I get this shell, it could be the start. It would not be a snare to flip, but a players drum.

Thanks again,

Tim

If its just missing the bottom hoop and throw off. You'd better get it. Check to see if the top hoop is brass,(magnet won't stick) the p83 throw offs are pricey but that guy deserves to be saved
