MIJ drum set- need advice Last viewed: 20 minutes ago

Hey all, first post.

First off, I know nothing. I'm not a great speller and I don't care.

I haven't consistently played in a band setting in about 10 years now. I'm a guitar player. I bought a MIJ 20x14 bass drum set. It's a gambles 4 piece.

This is just a small footprint little jam set used in my small practice room.

I don't want to put a lot of money into it. I'm just looking to getting the most out of what it is. I currently am practicing with some guys to do a project. 50's- 60's sock hop. I did one a couple years ago that went well. About 200-225 people.

Currently the bass has a remo weather king pinstripe skin on the front and matching black circle one on the kick side.

Snare is just cheap see through bottom and unlabeled white at the top

High and floor toms also have remo heads.

I don't have any cymbals yet except a zildjan splash. I "think" all I want are hi hats and a ride.

I need advice on buying inexpensive used cymbals. I've been watching ebay and have seem plenty of 20" rides (Zildjan, paste, chambers) going for about $40

I've seen the same hi hat sets for $40

Is there any brand or series that I should really be looking for in that same price range? I've also seen a new set of whoohan with also a crash for $119. What would you guys suggest? Any little tricks or things I can do to improve the little kit for little money?

hi funky54, welcome to the VDF.

sounds like you have a nice lit'l kit to have around for what it is.

my personal favorite place to shop is here at VDF. there is a lot of nice guys here to buy from here. but if i dont find what im looking for here, i check guitar center dot com. they handle used merchandise at good prices for the most part. my suggestion of cymbals would be a set of Zildjian A Customs, 14" hihats, 16" crash and a 20" ride. they are an all around type of music cymbal. and if the drum thing dont work out or you want to switch out arsenal you can get your money back if you want/need to sell them.

others will give some suggestions too, which is cool then you will have a few to choose from. good luck with your search and it would be nice to see picture o this said kit. :)

Stay Wiggly,
Robyn
