MIJ kit with no badges Last viewed: 45 minutes ago

Hi,

I bought a red sparkle MIJ kit last year for $100. I am guessing that it's from the 60s. Is it common that sets from that time were made with no brand?

The only way I know it's MIJ, is it says "JAPAN" on the cymbal mount on the top of the kick. It's missing the straight post that the cymbal would mount on.

It came with 2 cymbals - one has a black "Made in Italy" stamp.

It came with an old Rogers pedal, a new Dixon snare stand and new Dixon cymbal stand (not pictured).

That's a bargain at $100! It looks to be a Pearl from the shape of the lugs and the tom mount, done in the Club Date style with the single lug...

I had a couple drums identical to your (but orange sparkle) that had Zim Gar badges. Strange thing about those was, the wood was very poor quality, but the hardware was extremely beefy. Much more so than the Star drums I have...

More pics...

it has a nice Evans bass head

it has one crack in the bass and the wood hoops are in rough shape but they work

it has a crude way (I think) to adjust the floor tom legs

Your set is made by Pearl. Its the lowest end of the sets they made in the 60's.Some of these had no badges like you set.So it could be one of 50+ names.Your set could had sticker badges on it at one time, maybe around the air hole at the grommet or right under the grommet on the shell..Your set is a 3 ply shell set with three rings on bass drum also could have three rings on the floor too..Mikey
