MIJ Majestic Score Last viewed: 3 hours ago

The Crown kits immediately came to mind regarding the 10 lug BDs (20in). Crown is something special in my book - specifically that blue pearl one that often comes to mind. Those Crowns had thicker hardware and many lugs on each drum. Someday.......

I hope he keeps this Majestic - quite a gem, in more ways than one. I think he is really digging it the more he learns about it here....and here is the thing: he has not restored it / set it up with new heads and such yet! Oh just wait until he gets that done and starts playing it!!!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Hey Drummerjohn333! Very odd that you posted the same reply 3 times! Just a mistake?

Given that many Crown rack toms had 8 lugs, like both the 8x12 and 9x13 in this kit, I'm not surprised that the 14x20 bass drum had 10 lugs per side!-Mark

Very interesting along with the other Gold Eddy kit you found! [I wondered who Eddy was at first and then realized the wrap pattern looks like an eddy in a stream haha.]

Nice work finding those pictures. I wonder if the big four never did this [10L 20"] because they didn't have to mess around like that, whereas the imports are full of weird surprises. I wouldn't know where to start looking...

I was in line but you were faster Aaron! Congrats and enjoy them! They're sweeeeeet! Jump For Joy

Actually, I was the first to talk to the owner in Chino Hills and was going to pick them out the day it was listed, but my wife and daughter had both our cars, so I had to call him back and tell him I couldn't make it.

Funny thing about the price, he was going to sell them for $75.00 to me when I called. I guess demand makes the price go up.

Nice kit too.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Thanks for all of the replies, Fellas. I've been helping my mom and brother move houses this weekend, so I've been offline.

I hit up Ralf through his website and he shared with me that the kit is from around 1967. As you have already determined, the wrap is Eddy Gold Satin Flame. He also shared a link to the Tama website with this catalog scan (see below). Pretty cool. I admit that I was also impressed by the staggered lugs and 10-lug 20" bass drum. I know there are not too many of those are around.

I started working on the 12" rack tom and the wrap fell right off. Looks like I will be glueing it back down before I can clean it. The hardware was a little rusty on the inside, but the paint and the bearing edges look fantastic! I don't think the heads have ever been off of this kit. Also found a stamp that says '6120' on the inside. Anyone have a clue what it means?

I'll be keeping this kit for a while. I don't have a kit in these sizes or a kit from the 60's, either. Can't wait until she's all done, but it may take me a couple of weeks since my time is normally spread out between a day job, family and gigging. Here are a few pics of the rack tom.

Boy, when you want to remove wrap you need a hammer and chisel, but when you want to keep it, it falls off, go figure. Those will be some great drums for you Aaron.

Thank you!

Ha! Ain't that the truth, Jeff. They will indeed be some great drums...and on the cheap! I'm looking forward to getting them playable and presentable again.

I started working on the 12" rack tom and the wrap fell right off.

Totally an MIJ thing, sometimes there's a feeble layer of glue, other times it jumps right off...really handy for stained WMP, which is usually clear marine pearl with a [stained] white paper backing - ditch and replace the paper or paint the back of the wrap, bam!

Anyway, super clean interior there, nice edge, it's going to be a gem fersure. Looking forward to it...
