Most Sentimental Attachment? Last viewed: 31 minutes ago

Fellow Members:

I am quite curious. Which drum in your collection holds the most sentimental attachment for you? Value is NOT a factor. For me, although I collect and play with vintage Stars, the drum I would never part with is an early 70's Ludwig Supra-Phonic snare. This drum was given to me by a very talented, articulate and creative gentleman whom I admire greatly. For me, this drum is worth more than its weight in gold! There is no way that I would ever part with this wonderful gift!

Do you have a drum about which you feel so strongly? I think this might be a very interesting thread.

The only one like that that I have is one I sold and then later got back! I have a 5"x14" Ludwig Hammered Bronze Supra from the 80's that is my favorite snare drum. It wasn't until I sold it that I realized just how much I loved that drum. It isn't in the best cosmetic condition, but it gives me all the sounds I want from a snare. It has a warm, woody tone for a metal snare drum. It'll never leave my possession again. My fav.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

I think my most valued piece is a cymbal. Istanbul mehmet Sultan 17" crash. Really gorgeous design and great sound. I got it for my 17th birthday, it was my first good cymbal and first proffesional instrument.

My drum with the most sentimental attachment is my Slingerland Hollywood Ace. I love this drum to death. It was the very drum that got me bitten by the vintage bug. Besides being sold to me by a dear friend who has since moved away, and having been played at countless gigs and recording sessions, it just has an uber mojo to it, and has a wonderful crack and woody body to it. Last week I purchased another Hollywood Ace, one that sounds better AND matches my drum set. It's going to be kind of hard to sell this one next week, but it's just a drum, right?

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

This was a good idea for a thread, way to go Brian!

For me, it is the pre serial Ludwig downbeat snare that my daughter gave me for Christmas last year. I will keep that long longer that vm2k keeps his 69 acro, lol.
