Mounted Tom Tone Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

Hi,

I have always stood back from the rims/iss solutions. Happy with my tom tones.

Until....

Well I put the Pearl Iso footies on my floor toms and all of a sudden there was a significant difference in ring and body tone; the floor tom had way more than my ride tom.

The effect was significant enough that I had to DAMP down my floor tom last week to keep it in context with the ride tom.

So I am going to try a Pearl Optimount and see if it will help the ride tom catch up with my floor.

This was not an itch I expected to scratch.

Hi,

In my one tom experiment the Pearl mount did "open up" the 13" ride tom a bit. But it remains sonically dryer than it's 14" floor tom neighbour -- which is mounted on legs and iso feet.

Held in hand and by the batter rim, they sing with similar voices. But even with the Optimount in place the voices differ.

So, sound engineers regularly ask me to put more moongel on the FT, to get the two in sync. Pity.

Take a look at a new Gauger thing called the FlexFrame. I'm using one on a Radio King 12x14 tom on a cut-down snare stand. I didn't want to attach legs to the shell so I tried the FlexFrame and it really lets the tom sing while sitting in the snare stand. Pretty cool and about $40.
